COSTA MESA — Pitcher Brandon Kelly notched his first win of the season throwing 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and allowing three hits to help the Mustangs advance to today’s Beach Pit Classic consolation championship game.

P.J. Maloney came in and got the save giving up only two hits and no earned runs in two innings of work.

Costa Mesa’s Ryan Boulger put the Mustangs (7-7) up late with a two-run home run in the fourth inning as Kory Bennion started the scoring with a two-run double in the third. Kelly helped his cause, hitting two for four while Maloney contributed as well hitting two for three.

The Mustangs will play host to the Corona del Mar ‘B’ team today at 10:30 a.m.

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior catcher Beau Attyah went two for four with a home run and two runs batted in for the Sea Kings in a fifth-place semifinal game of the Beach Pit Classic Tuesday.

Michael Borchard went two for three with an RBI and a home run, while Will Morrow was three for four for CdM (7-10), which will play host to Northwood today at 2 p.m. in the seventh-place game.

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior Ryan Albert lead a big second inning by hitting two home runs in the frame for the Sailors in a 13th-place semifinal of the Beach Pit Classic Tuesday.

Senior Blake Davey racked up three second-inning doubles to help Newport Harbor (12-3) put up 18 runs in the frame. All 18 runs were earned as the team had seven doubles and two home runs.

Sophomore Matt Carpenter went two for two with two doubles, while senior Alex Maddox also went two for two.

Sophomore A.J. Swies pitched three scoreless innings and struck out four.

The Sailors will play host to Villa Park in the 13th-place game today at 10:30 a.m.
