COSTA MESA — Shortstop Jordan Beck was one of three Pirates who had a hit against Cuesta’s ace, Phill Gerber, going one for two with a walk in the nonconference game Tuesday.
Brooklyn Foster and Trever Jensen each went one for three to round out the Pirates’ three total hits.
Ryan Doran lost his first game of the year for OCC (14-11), pitching three innings and giving up one earned run on two hits, two walks and one strikeout. Andy Abrams came on in the top of the ninth and recorded two strikeouts keeping the game close going into the last inning, but the Pirates were unable to produce a late run.

MISSION VIEJO — In the dominant Orange Empire Conference win Tuesday, very few players for OCC lost more than one game, but it was Jessie Chen that completely blanked his competition, winning his two sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Brad Fisher won two sets at No. 1 singles and doubles, while his partner, Yannick Lepage, also stacked two victories by winning in singles as well.
Kevin Tran had another standout day winning in both No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.
The Pirates (12-4, 6-3 in conference) will play against Fullerton Thursday at home.

Cal Poly Pomona 3
COSTA MESA — Alessandro Ventre was a double winner Tuesday, beating his singles competition, 6-3, 6-2, while besting his doubles opponent, 8-3, with partner Sandro Bucher in the nonconference match.
Lucas Pereira also snagged two wins with a singles defeat of Cal Poly Pomona’s Dabbas Robby and a doubles victory with partner Tino Brodar, 8-6.
Mark Tarjan and Yahor Kryvaruchka also won their singles matches for Vanguard (12-5), which plays at Azusa Pacific Friday.
Stanford 6, UC Irvine 1
STANFORD — The No. 56-ranked Anteaters’ sole winner against No. 7 Stanford Tuesday was No. 2 singles player Fabian Matthews in the nonconference match Tuesday.
Matthews, the former Corona del Mar High standout, beat No. 45-ranked Alex Clayton, 6-3, 7-6.
UCI (13-8) will play host to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Saturday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS

El Camino 1
TORRANCE — The Pirates only lost a total of ten games in the nine sets played in the Orange Empire Conference match Tuesday at El Camino.
OCC’s one loss was due to injury forfeiture in a doubles match.
But that was the only hiccup for the Pirates (8-3, 4-3 in conference). Doubles partners Bree Williston and Nicole Rorick won, 6-0, 6-0.
Melissa Boyer also managed a straight set sweep, beating her opponent in singles, 6-0, 6-0.
