Grace Inez Howald
Howald, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2010 in
her Corona del Mar home at the age of 95. She chose to be
addressed as Inez as a child, considering the name unique,
and she certainly was unique.
Inez loved life and lived it to the fullest, especially relishing
her days as a wingwalker with her “Barnstormer” pilot/
husband, Grant Howald. She accepted challenges willingly
and even chained herself to the large eucalyptus trees
on Poppy Avenue in Corona del Mar to prevent their
destruction by bulldozers. She and Grant were married
for 61 years until his passing in 1996. Together, they were
active with other community members in founding the
Oasis Senior Center and Grant Howald Park.
She will be dearly missed by son Walt Howald and
daughter-in-law, Karen, grandchildren, Theresa Howald
Herscowitz (Andrew), Brandon Howald (Alyson), Laura
White (Glenn), and Brent Beebe (Sarah) and seven greatgrandchildren.
Her family is especially grateful to her
loving caregivers, Margaret, Elizabeth, Monica and Shirley.
A viewing will take place Sunday, April 4, from 2:00 to
5:00 p.m. at Pacific View Mortuary in Corona del Mar. A
funeral service will be held on April 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
at Community Church Congregational in Corona del Mar,
followed by interment at Pacific View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Oasis Center
and Community Church Congregational (both in Corona
del Mar) would be appreciated.
