H.B. seeking lifeguard applicants
Huntington Beach is accepting applications for lifeguards for its 3.5 miles of beach to complete rescues, prevent accidents and administer first aid.
All applicants must be 17 years old by June 1, be in excellent health, be able to drag up to 150 pounds and have 20/40 vision on both eyes without glasses or contacts. Applicants must also pass a medical exam and drug screening.
Selected candidates must pass a physical performance exam at 8 a.m. March 7 at Lifeguard Headquarters at 103 Pacific Coast Hwy. Lifeguard hopefuls will complete a 1,000-yard ocean swim, 500-yard ocean swim sprint and 1,500-yard run-swim-run test. Candidates will be ranked by time, and up to 36 applicants will be chosen to apply for the Lifeguard Training Program.
Lifeguards earn $15.92 to $17.72 an hour with a 5% compensation increase for EMT certification and being bilingual.
Applications are due March 7 and must be submitted to the Lifeguard Headquarters. Applications can be downloaded at www.huntingtonbeachca.gov.
