Officers to start saturation patrol at 5 p.m.
Costa Mesa police tonight will have officers on patrol looking out specifically for drunk drivers.
Unlike DUI checkpoints designed to raise awareness, tonight’s saturation patrol focuses on enforcement.
Starting at 5 p.m., Costa Mesa Police Department’s DUI Enforcement Team will deploy officers to crack down on drunk drivers who don’t get designated drivers.
Since last year, Costa Mesa has seen one DUI-related death and 47 crashes injuring 58 people, police said.
Funding for the additional manpower to find drivers under the influence comes from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
