Firefighters on Monday had to rescue two dangling workers, who were doing maintenance on a scaffold along the side of a medical building near Fashion Island, when the swing stage that propped them up malfunctioned.
“It’s great to be able to tell the story,” said Mark Dunn, 44, one of the workers who was saved by his harness after the stand dropped from under him.
Dunn and Wes Malone, 27, were performing routine maintenance on the building when Dunn’s side of the swing stage fell. A Newport Beach fire engine crew pulled the men up one at a time from the roof. During the rescue Malone suffered a minor hand injury and Dunn said he felt fine other than being a little shaken up.
