Business Club names new elected officers

The Laguna Beach Business Club recently elected officers for 2010.

The officers are:

President “” Richard T. Cirelli, RTC Mortgage Corporation;

Vice president “” John Campbell, John Campbell Insurance Agency;

Secretary “” Melissa Almon, Almon Creative;

Treasurer “” Jerry Immel, Pacific Microsystems;

Past President “” Catharine Cooper, Cooper Design Associates.

The club meets at 7:30 a.m. the third Thursday of the month at the Hotel Laguna, and the public is welcome to attend.

Relay for Life launches

The Relay For Life in Laguna Beach is planned for Aug. 14 to 15, and the group is forming a planning committee.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight team event that raises awareness of cancer in the community and raises funds to fight cancer.

Participants form teams of friends, family, co-workers and neighbors. Each team member raises money in the weeks leading up to the event.

Then, on Relay Day, members of the team take turns walking around the track over 24 hours. The goal is to have someone on the track at all times.

A planning meeting will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Laguna Beach Library’s community room. For more information, contact Lauren Harris, [email protected].

Applicants for two city committees sought

The City Council is accepting applications for three two-year terms on the Recreation Committee and four two-year terms on the Parking, Traffic & Circulation Committee. Both terms run through Feb. 29, 2012.

Interviews will be conducted at the council meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Laguna Beach residents who are interested in serving should obtain an application from the City Clerk’s office or from the city’s website and file by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Applications will not be accepted after the deadline.

Garden Club presents Ikebana expert

The Laguna Beach Garden Club will present Ikebana expert Shelly Hillyer on Feb. 12 and hold a Valentine Basket Silent Auction.

Hillyer, a student of the Sogestu Ikebana school of Japanese floral arranging since 1985, will discuss and demonstrate some of the techniques used in creating arrangements ranging in size from the multi-story high, “Don’t Try This At Home” creations seen in public buildings to serene table-top arrangements for the home.

This meeting also features the annual Valentine Basket Silent Auction of arrangements created by garden club members.

The club meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive.
