Anteater Invitational
COSTA MESA — UC Irvine senior John Chin earned medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 11-under-par 202 to lead the host Anteaters to the team title Tuesday at Mesa Verde Country Club.
UCI overcame a 14-shot deficit heading into the final 18 holes and edged Santa Clara in a one-hole playoff.
All five players participated in the playoff, in which the top four players scores counted. UCI’s combined score on the No. 18 was 14, three shots better than the Broncos.
Chin, who shot 66-65-71, finished four shots better than runner-up Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge.

LONG BEACH — Brad Fisher, an Estancia High product, swept at love at No. 1 singles for the Pirates in their season opener Tuesday.
Tony Wright, Yannick Lepage, Matt Miller, Jesse Chen and Marvel De La Cruz also won in singles for OCC.

LOS ANGELES — The Anteaters dropped to 3-2 after the nonconference loss to the No. 1-ranked Trojans Tuesday.
Shimpei Suzuki lost in No. 3 singles to Jaak Poldma, 5-7, 7-6, 10-7.
