Man shoots himself near the Wedge

A 53-year-old local man shot and killed himself on the beach near the Wedge, Newport Beach police said.
The man apparently shot himself on the beach with a revolver on Friday morning, Newport Beach Sgt. Steve Burdette said Saturday.
A passerby later found the man’s body.
The Orange County coroner’s office would not release the man’s name on Saturday, because he committed suicide, Supervising Deputy Coroner Daniel Aikin said.
