All-League Teams

OCL Volleyball

Estancia senior Amanda Watson and junior Lily McLendon and Costa Mesa junior Shannon Walthers each made the first-team All-Orange Coast League in girls’ volleyball.

Watson and McLendon helped the Eagles (15-11, 4-4 in league) reach the CIF Southern Section playoffs for the fourth straight year after placing third in league.

Watson, a repeat first-team libero, led the league with 522 digs. Coach Jim Huffman said Watson broke the program’s single-season record for digs.

Watson led Estancia with 39 service aces.

McLendon finished with 311 kills. Huffman said the total is the second best in the Eagles’ history.

Players earning second-team honors were Estancia seniors Shona Lamb and Amy Hartwell and Costa Mesa junior Alex Krohnfeldt.

Laguna Beach’s Paulette Grand Pre and Alex Rieckhoff shared the league’s MVP.

Sage Hill School senior Andrew Dorne is one of five local boys’ water polo players named to the first-team All-Orange League.

The others are Sage Hill senior Jake Blitzer, Estancia juniors Charlie Umansky and Preston Schow and Costa Mesa senior Joey Dinh.

Dorne and Blitzer led the Lightning (11-8, 3-1 in league) to a second-place finish in league and the program’s first CIF Southern Section playoff victory.

Dorne, who ranked second in the league with 76 goals, scored seven goals in Sage Hill’s 11-7 Division III postseason victory against Schurr of Montebello.

Blitzer, a goalie, made 133 saves and scored 19 goals during the season. He’s a repeat first-team pick.

Umansky and Schow lifted the Eagles (19-9, 2-2) to their first playoff appearance since 2005. Umansky scored five goals in Estancia’s 14-7 Division III wild-card victory against Fontana.

Making the second team were Sage Hill’s Eric Hallett and Julius Lee, Estancia’s Conner Graham and Costa Mesa’s Marlo Afuang.

Laguna Beach’s Nolan McConnell was named the league’s MVP.
