Fair preservation group wants OC Fair & Event Center directors to resign
The Orange County Fairgrounds Preservation Society plans to ask the Orange County fairgrounds’ board of directors to resign during the board’s scheduled meeting today at the fairgrounds. The Preservation Society aims to preserve the fairgrounds and stop the state from selling the 150-acre property in Costa Mesa.
Last Thursday, the fairgrounds was auctioned off to a developer, Craig Realty Group, for a bid of $56.5 million.
The fairgrounds’ board of directors used tax payers’ money to lobby the state to sell off the fairgrounds. The preservation society claims that the fairgrounds are being sold because of the board members’ work. The board members’ activities — including forming a nonprofit to buy the fairgrounds and using tax payers’ money to lobby the state — are being investigated by the county district attorney.
Today’s OC Fair & Event Center board meeting is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at 88 Fair Drive.
More to come.
