D.A. prosecutor, his wife arrested

An Orange County district attorney prosecutor and his wife were arrested over the holidays on suspicion of domestic violence.

David Brent, 53, and his wife Roshawn Brent, 27, were arrested in the late hours of Christmas Day on suspicion of inflicting corporal injury on each other.

David Brent, an assistant deputy district attorney and the head of the homicide unit, has been working for the district attorney’s office for 24 years, said Susan Kang Schroeder, a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office.

Brent and his wife pulled over in the parking lot of Ocean View High School after allegedly having an argument while driving, said Lt. Russell Reinhart of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

The two were arguing over a gift when David Brent allegedly punched his wife, she told an emergency dispatcher, according to the police dispatcher records. Roshawn Brent called police dispatchers at 11 p.m. to report the incident and David Brent took off on foot with the car keys, according to the records.

Police responded to the call, and both the husband and wife made allegations of domestic violence, Russell said. After investigating the incident, police arrested David Brent on Heil Avenue and Edwards Street and his wife, who was still in the car, at Warner Avenue and Gothard Street.

Reinhart said he couldn’t comment on any injuries sustained during the argument.

“It was just a husband and wife having an argument that led to domestic violence,” Reinhart said.

Both parties posted the $50,000 bail and were released from custody, Reinhart said.

The case is being turned over to the Attorney General for investigation, Schroeder said. David Brent is still an employee for the district attorney’s office, but Schroeder said she couldn’t comment further on what will happen with his job, citing personnel issues.
