COSTA MESA — Senior Wes Shaw, who was scoreless on Saturday, had a season-high 27 points for the Eagles in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Junior Davon Joyner scored 23 points, while senior Jesus Santonio came off the bench to add eight points for Estancia (10-8).

The Eagles open Orange Coast League play at Calvary Chapel Friday at 7 p.m.

IRVINE — Senior Connor Gaughan had 10 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Lightning in the Academy League opener Tuesday at Concordia University.

Senior Kevin Schaefer had 16 points and junior Mark Loper chipped in 12 points and seven assists for Sage (11-3).

Crean fell to 7-4.

Sage returns to action Friday when it plays host to league foe Oxford Academy.

LAGUNA HILLS — Senior Brian Waldron scored 14 points for the Mustangs in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Junior Andrew Albers added 10 points for Costa Mesa (2-16), which will play host to Laguna Beach in its Orange Coast League opener Friday at 7 p.m.

NEWPORT COAST — Alexa Thomas, who recorded a save as goalie in the first half, had a goal and an assist in overtime for the Lightning in their Academy League opener Tuesday.

The teams were tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation and then played two 10-minute overtime periods.

Megan Culberson scored an unassisted goal two minutes into overtime. Noosha Deravi scored on a cross from Thomas in the 93rd minute and two minutes later Thomas scored an unassisted goal.

Maddie Culberson scored in the 22nd minute for her fifth goal of the season.

Sage Hill (4-5-2, 1-0 in league) will play at Oxford Academy Thursday.

Crean Lutheran 23

IRVINE — Sophomore Ava Soleimany scored a career-high 20 points for the Lightning in their Academy League Opener at Concordia University Tuesday.

Senior Hannah Jeffrey had seven points and 18 rebounds for Sage Hill (6-3, 1-0 in league), which plays host to Oxford Academy Friday.

Calvary Chapel 20

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior Caroline van der Velde had 15 points and 12 rebounds in three quarters for the Sea Kings in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Junior Ellie Nadal had 10 points and five assists, while senior Katie Bergsma added eight points for Corona del Mar (10-6).

The Sea Kings open Pacific Coast League play at Laguna Hills Friday at 5:30 p.m.
