UCI volleyball adds three
Three student-athletes have signed national letters of intent with the UC Irvine women’s volleyball program, Anteaters Coach Paula Weishoff announced.
“We are excited about our incoming class,” Weishoff said. “They have tremendous upside and can make an impact right away for the Anteater program. They have all been a part of winning teams and they know what is necessary to be successful and competitive at UC Irvine.”
Shannon Fleming, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, led Archbishop Mitty High to its second CIF Division II state championship in the Bren Events Center earlier this month. Fleming, who recently received honorable mention in voting for the 2009 Under Armour All-American team, is a three-time West Catholic Athletic League champion. She was a second-team all-league performer as a senior.
Arielle Manz, a 6-3 middle blocker at Redondo High, was voted the team’s Most Improved Player in 2007 and 2008. The two-time scholar-athlete helped her club team capture a gold medal at the Junior Olympics in 2009.
Shaina Olsen, a 6-1 outside hitter, is a three-year varsity performer at St. Francis High. She helped the team to the CIF Division II final and CIF Northern Regional final.
Olsen helped St. Francis win two Northern California Volleyball Assn. titles and was an all-league honoree in 2009.
