Collecting food for people in need
There will be several opportunities for local residents to donate food for people in need today.
All donations and proceeds will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.
The first Orange County Rooster Bowl Fundraiser & Food Drive, at which the Golden West College Rustlers and Ventura College Pirates will vie for a spot in the California state championship game, will give discounted admission to people who bring a nonperishable food item.
The game is at 6 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. at LeBard Stadium at Orange Coast College, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.
Pre-game and half-time entertainment will feature Orange County-based high school bands and special performances showcasing local talent.
Game admission is $8 with one nonperishable food item, or $5 plus one food item for children younger than 12.

In addition, Trader Joe’s and Yoga Works will have a food drive for nonperishable food products from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Trader Joe’s at 640 W. 17th St., Costa Mesa.
