Fountain Valley School District appoints new trustee

The Fountain Valley School District has named Nicola Weiss, a longtime PTA member and mother of five children in the district, to its board of trustees following the death of board President Patricia Harney.

Weiss was chosen at the board’s Nov. 12 meeting and will complete Harney’s term, which will end in November 2010.

Harney, who was first elected to the board in 2002, died unexpectedly in September.

Weiss has served as the PTA president of Courreges Elementary School and has been the district liaison to the PTA Huntington Union Council. She has also served as a member of the Superintendent’s Parent Council, the Fountain Valley Educational Foundation and the Action Committee for Education.

She is scheduled to officially join the board at its Dec. 10 meeting.
