Sage into semis

TORRANCE — Visiting Sage Hill School defeated North Torrance, 15-3, Tuesday to advance to the CIF Southern Section Division IV semifinals.

It’s the seventh time in the last eight seasons the Lightning have made it to the semifinals.

Sage Hill will play host to Rio Mesa in Thursday’s semifinals, at the Tennis Club.

The No. 2-seeded visitors received singles sweeps from senior Julia Blakeley and sophomore Ava Soleimany, playing in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Blakeley did not drop a game and Soleimany lost only three.

Junior Olivia Simon won two sets after replacing Lauren Hsu, who suffered an elbow injury.

Coach A.G. Longoria substituted liberally in doubles, with four separate pairings earning set victories.

The tandems of Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley, Dominique Moore and Liana Korber, as well as Devyn Billingsley and Casey Astorino all won two doubles sets for the visitors.

The Lightning improved to 16-8.

North Torrance finished the season 12-10.
