VU opens at home
The Vanguard University women’s soccer team earned the No. 8 seed and will play host to Cal State San Marcos in the first round of the 32-team NAIA Tournament, Saturday at a time to be determined.
The Lions (12-1-6) posted a 1-0 nonconference win over the Cougars (9-4-5) on Sept. 9 in San Marcos.
Vanguard has outscored opponents, 36-9, this season, while San Marcos has posted a 29-8 scoring advantage. Both schools are among three NAIA squads tied for eighth in goals allowed per game (0.47) this season.
Vanguard senior goalkeeper Jillian Foss has 10 shutouts this season, while San Marcos has eight.
The Lions are paced by freshman Amanda Couch (nine goals and seven assists), sophomore Gabriella Valles (10 goals, four assists), junior Karri Currier (five goals, seven assists) and junior Danielle Dintino (five goals, five assists).
