Cal State Northridge 3,

UC Irvine 0

IRVINE — The host Anteaters missed a chance to earn the No. 2 seed in the Big West Conference Tournament by closing out the regular season with their most lopsided loss of the season Saturday.

A tie or a win would have allowed UCI (13-6, 6-4 in conference) to play host to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in a Big West Conference Tournament semifinal Thursday.

Now, UCI will venture to the Central Coast for the semifinal clash.

The Matadors (10-7-2, 5-4-1) wind up in fourth place in the conference standings and will visit conference champion UC Santa Barbara in the other semifinal.
