Doctor dishes out advice to buyers
Dr. 90210 is coming to the 92626.
Robert Rey, the star of the E! channel reality show “Dr. 90210,” will promote his line of beauty products and host a seminar on how men and women can achieve ageless-looking skin “without the office visit” at Nordstrom in South Coast Plaza tonight.
For $40 people will have a chance to meet the doctor and get personal advice.
While Rey sculpts women’s bodies into the shape they desire, he says surgery should be a last resort.
He’s gone even further with his advice by creating a skin- care line to enhance women’s beauty by blending the secrets of the Central and South American rain forests with the secrets of the Western world.
The native Brazilian, who came to the United States on a rusty Banana boat, says God’s work has no side effects. But Western medicine does.
And out he went to find seemingly ageless plants, which he added into his new product: Dr. Robert Rey Sensual Solutions.
“Life is very, very tough,” said the 48-year old. “If people can feel a little sexier, life just becomes a little bit easier. All my products have to have one thing in common: They have to have sensual solutions. Sensuality. That’s the Brazilian contribution to the world.”
His new line features 13 products designed to naturally plump lips, eliminate dark circles around the eyes, correct or stop wrinkles on the neck and to firm and lift skin.
Rey’s new line complements his 17-year profession, he said.
Coming up with ways to help women look and feel better isn’t new. He created Dr. Rey Shapewear, undergarments designed to sculpt and trim inches.
It is Rey’s regard and respect for his mother, whom he describes as a saint, that led him to pick a profession to help women look and feel better.
And now it is his daughter who gives him the drive to continue to find better solutions.
When it comes down to it, it’s about reaching one goal: “I build women’s self-confidence.”
Rey, who holds two black belts in Taekwondo and Hapkido, is also a sought-after motivational speaker.
His success isn’t a result of a wealthy family or an easy life. In fact, Rey’s childhood was riddled with poverty.
He moved to the United States after a missionary group on a visit to Brazil couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him behind and asked to take him back to America. His father gave him away, he said.
But Rey’s success is due solely to his efforts and hard work.
“You can say a lot of things about America, but the beauty of America is this: If you put in the effort, you will be rewarded. America rewarded me,” he said.
