He may be the king, but police said he still isn’t allowed to carry a loaded gun.

In what must have been an odd sight for bystanders, a Newport Beach man dressed as Elvis on his way to a costume party was arrested Saturday night when police found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun in the man’s truck, said Sgt. Evan Sailor.

The 21-year-old man claimed he was a coal miner from New Mexico. His Ford F-150 had New Mexico plates but was not registered in the state, Sailor said.

When he was pulled over at 39th Street and Seashore Drive, he told police his driver’s license was behind the front seat.

The officer ordered the man out then went to get the license himself. The driver then told the officer he also had a gun there, too.

The gun had a live round in the magazine, which is against state law, Sailor said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm. He has not yet been charged.
