The Crowd:
The Tiger Woods Tiger Woods Block Party proved once again to be an Orange County sensation.
The fifth annual extravaganza attracted 700 patrons and raised more than $500,000 in support of the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim. The center helps give inner-city kids an educational leg up, preparing them to seek higher educational goals.
This year the party was headlined by singer Sheryl Crow, who brought down the house with “Every Day Is A Winding Road” and other hits, including “Leaving Las Vegas” and “All I Want to Do.”
Guests hobnobbed around Grey Goose martini bars and dined on an amazing dinner prepared by celebrity chef Tim Love.
The chef appropriately named one of his signature appetizers “The mini love burger.”
If that wasn’t up your alley, there was rabbit/rattlesnake sausage topped with what else but creme fraiche.
One group of partygoers sipping their third martini was absolutely wild over the blue corn lobster hush puppies drenched in chili honey butter.
Across the lobby at the Grove of Anaheim, which was packed shoulder to shoulder with glamorous patrons, one of the wait-staff approached a very attractive woman wearing a low-cut bustier and leather pants, her 5-inch-tall silver glittered pointed heels competing with the bling from her multi-carat diamond choker as she reached out and asked, “Ohhhh, that looks good, what is it?”
He replied, “It’s snake madam, would you care to try some?”
She answered back, “I just love steak.” And the shimmering supporter helped herself to a very large piece of rattlesnake.
One of the most talked about, or I should say whispered about, VIP guests in the crowd was none other than the very attractive blond Jamie McCourt, the high-profile, soon to be ex-wife of Frank McCourt of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
McCourt mingled with Elin Woods, a.k.a. Mrs. Tiger Woods, who was front and center to help honor McCourt, who received accolades as Tiger Woods’ 2009 Champion Honoree for her support of the learning center.
Tennis star Lindsay Davenport was also front and center in support of Tiger’s cause, sharing the evening with local celebs including the beautiful Jennifer Condas, dentist to the stars Dr. Sherri Worth, Corona del Mar cutie Eve Kornyei, and major sponsors Carolyn and Bob Waltos of the Castaways, Newport Beach.
As in years past big money was raised from the silent and live auctions as the crowd went crazy over Love’s dinner menu that began with an incredible beet salad dressed with citrus butter, followed by an entree of braised short ribs and acorn squash chili rellenos.
South Coast Plaza VIP Kathryn Glassmyer was spotted in the crowd along with Louis Vuitton’s Bill Peters, one of Orange County’s most affable retail barons.
Sharing dessert, which consisted of a cappuccino flan and Mexican wedding cookies, were dedicated learning center supporters and Newport residents Lori and Brian Hirth and event backers Jillian and Paul Glowienke. Doug and Kathy Forde, John Leach, and Alona and George Hedley were also front and center for Tiger.
THE CROWD runs Thursdays and Saturdays.
