Rustlers are victorious

Mike VanDeripe passed for two touchdowns as the Golden West College football team won at San Diego Mesa, 18-7, on Saturday.
The game was scoreless at halftime, but the Rustlers’ Eric Torres booted a 20-yard field goal then VanDeripe found Chris Spencer on a one-yard touchdown pass.
After San Diego Mesa cut the lead to 11-7, VanDeripe’s 36-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Grissom gave Golden West (2-4) some breathing room. VanDeripe finished with 317 passing yards; Bryce Blake had 11 catches for 110 yards.
Golden West faces Compton College at 6 p.m. Saturday at OCC.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Addison Roderick scored off Sarah Foster’s assist, but Golden West fell against Fullerton, 2-1, on Tuesday. Veronica Helguerra had eight saves for the Rustlers, who dropped to 0-14.
MEN’S SOCCER
David Perez was the lone goal-scorer for the Rustlers (6-6-1) in a 5-1 loss at Santa Ana Tuesday. Juan Carlos Rodriguez had an assist and Bill Hambelton and Javier Hernandez combined for four saves.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Golden West swept Saddleback on Friday, 25-17, 25-12, 25-23, to improve to 12-3. Alex Risko (12 kills) and Allie Board (11) led the Rustlers.
