League changes approved

The CIF Southern Section Council approved a releaguing plan Thursday that will change league affiliations for four Newport-Mesa Unified District high schools.

The changes begin in the fall of 2010 and run through the spring of 2014.

In the Sunset League, Newport Harbor will welcome newcomer Huntington Beach. Edison, Fountain Valley, Los Alamitos and Marina remain. Former Sunset League participant Esperanza will move to the Century League.

In the Pacific Coast League, Corona del Mar will welcome newcomers Northwood and Woodbridge. Beckman, Irvine and University remain. Laguna Hills and San Juan Hills, who compete in the PCL now, will move to the 10-team South Coast Conference.

In the Orange Coast League, Costa Mesa and Estancia will welcome newcomer Saddleback. Calvary Chapel, Godinez and Laguna Beach remain.

There were no changes in the Academy League, in which Sage Hill competes.
