S&R; Sport Cup

IRVINE — Blake Kelly scored eight goals to help lead Newport Harbor High to the semifinals after two wins at Irvine High Friday.

Kelly scored four in each win, first a 19-3 victory over Clovis West, and then a 13-3 triumph against Long Beach Wilson.

Jack Yeager led the Sailors (12-1) with five goals against Clovis West. Zach Lucas and Farrel South scored four goals each against Wilson, when Chris Whitelegge had 13 saves and an assist.

Newport Harbor will face Coronado today at 2:40 p.m. at Irvine High. The final is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. the Sailors beat Coronado, 14-9, Sept. 19.

S&R; Sport Cup

IRVINE — Chase Watson scored six goals to help lead Corona del Mar High to the semifinals after two wins at Irvine High Friday.

Max Bergeson and Michael Liao scored three goals each in the Sea Kings’ 12-7 win over Bellarmine to open the tournament. Watson and Justin Papa added two goals each.

Watson scored four goals for CdM (11-2) in an 8-4 win against Acalanes, when Liao added two goals.

Goalies Bruce Bearer (14 saves) and Isle Anderson (13 saves) contributed on defense.

The Sea Kings will face Miramonte today at 3:45 at Irvine High.

COSTA MESA — Senior outside hitter Lily McLendon recorded 24 kills to help lead the Eagles to a 21-25, 27-25, 16-25, 25-17, 17-15 nonleague win Friday.

Senior Amy Hartwell added 17 kills, while senior setter Shona Lamb had 39 assists and senior libero Amanda Watson had 24 digs for Estancia (12-7), which trailed, 12-6, in the fifth set.

The Eagles play at Godinez Tuesday.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sophomore middle blocker Zoe Kreitenberger had 11 kills, eight blocks and two aces to lead the Lightning to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-15 Academy League win Friday.

Senior outside hitter Lindsey Kish added 11 kills, five blocks and 13 digs for Sage Hill (6-8, 2-0 in league), which plays host to Crean Lutheran Tuesday.

NEWPORT BEACH — No. 1 singles player Julia Blakeley swept, dropping just one game for the Lightning in a dramatic Academy League match at The Tennis Club Friday.

The doubles team of Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley won two sets, as did the pair of Liana Korber and Devon Billingsley for Sage Hill (8-6, 4-1 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division IV. St. Margaret’s, ranked No. 1 in Division IV, improved to 15-0, 6-0.

The aforementioned two doubles team won 29 games. The doubles team of Sam Murray and Casey Astorino were swept, but won 10 games for the Lightning, while Oliva Simon and Dominique Moore won a set each in singles.

CROSS COUNTRY

Nonleague tri-meet

PALOS VERDES — The Sage Hill boys’ had five runners in the top 10 to win with 27 points against Chadwick (28) and Verbum Dei (78) Friday.

The Lightning’s Dylan Thies led the way, finishing second in 18 minutes, 36 seconds. Slater Stanley (18:53) was third, David Penner (19;39) sixth, Alemar Brito (19:49) seventh and Jack Percival (19:56) ninth for Sage Hill.

On the girls’ side, the Lightning were third with 64 points, behind Chadwick (19) and Marlborough (54). Sophia Witte finished eighth in 22:38. Jackie Dion (11th in 25:09), Caroline Grant (13th in 25:14), Naomi Grenados (15th in 25:39) and Rannah Dabiri (17th in 26:51) also competed for Sage Hill.

The Ligntning will next race in the Orange County Championships Oct. 17 at Irvine Regional Park.
