Sunset Beach awaits survey results

The Sunset Beach Residents Assn. plans to release the results of its survey determining whether residents want to incorporate or join Huntington Beach at its monthly meeting at 7:30 tonight.

The association’s Survey Committee sent out letters to all 850 registered voters and landowners to see what the community wants. The survey is also testing the community’s dedication by asking for donations of $500 for the more than $100,000 estimated cost of incorporation.

“The main thing for the survey was to show an interest in incorporation, and the donations were to show a commitment to incorporate,” said Bill Sebring, a Sunset resident and member of the survey committee.

The community’s status has been up in the air since it was put under Huntington’s sphere of influence in early July. The Orange County Local Agency Formation Commission put the community under the city’s sphere of influence in an effort to get rid of all county islands.

The deadline for the survey was extended to Wednesday from Sept. 21 to allow more people a chance to turn in their papers, said Sebring.

The committee has already received donations to support the community’s incorporation with checks from $20 to $2,000, Sebring said.

The association meets at its Women’s Club at 16812 Bayview Drive.
