Gorrell leads F.V. to big victory
Lydia Gorrell scored twice and Sara Smith added another goal as the AYSO Region 5 U-16 girls’ soccer team, Fountain Valley Red, defeated a team from Whittier Region 75, 3-2, on Saturday. Gorrell’s first goal, a 25-yard shot to the far post in the fifth minute, evened the score at one as Whittier had taken an early 1-0 lead. Gorrell found the back of the net again in the 16th minute as she took a crossing pass from Desiree Fisher and one-timed it to the upper-near corner.
Smith finished off the scoring for Fountain Valley in the 32nd minute, as she put in a shot that rebounded off the Whittier keepers’ hands. Region 5 returns to action at 8 a.m. Saturday with a game in Cypress.
