Komen affiliate still seeking donations
More than $2.5 million has been tallied to date following the 2009 Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure in Newport Beach.
More than 30,000 people turned out for the event Sunday, at which breast cancer survivors and their supporters ran, walked and volunteered to help find a cure for breast cancer.
More than 24,000 people registered to participate in the race itself, 1,700 of whom were breast cancer survivors.
Out of 783 teams, the United States Postal Service had the most participants, with 975 registered.
Nearly 1,500 people helped volunteer at booths, water stations and on the course.
The Komen Orange County Affiliate has a $3-million goal; fundraising will continue through Oct. 16.
To send a donation, visit komenoc.org or mail it to Komen Orange County Affiliate, 3191-A Airport Loop Drive, Costa Mesa, CA, 92626.
