Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO — Melanie Powers won the Girls’ Division III race, finishing in 18 minutes, 12 seconds and leading Corona del Mar High to second place out of 28 teams Saturday.

Ali Hummelberg was 15th in 19:43, while Kristina Funahashi (18th in 19:50), Kristen Rivera (25th in 20:04), Shelby Perez (51st in 20:51) and Megan Zwerling (72nd in 21:21) also contributed.

The CdM boys finished sixth out of 32 teams, led by Sebstien Welch, who was 22nd in 16:46.

Dana Hills Invitational

DANA POINT — The Newport Harbor High boys won the junior race in Division II Saturday.

Alex Jolly led the way, finishing fifth in 15 minutes, 53 seconds. Austin Little (19th in 16:16), Aaron Fleming (24th in 16:28), Greg Brostek (35th in 16:49), Ryan Dutch (46th in 17:08), Addison McLaren (50th in 17:12) and Luke Dawson (53rd in 17:16) also competed. Jake Manning (17:08) was 45th among seniors. Jake Barber (16:30) took 10th and Jason Moreno (17:06) was 20th in the sophomore race.

On the girls’ side, junior Torri Sarris (18:21) finished fifth in the junior/senior race, while senior Ava Nelson (19:20) was 20th. Maggie Goodson (19:26) was fifth in the freshman race and Lauren Clemence (19:30) was fourth among sophomores.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Durango Fall Classic

LAS VEGAS — Newport Harbor High reached the final, where it lost to Archbishop Mitty, 25-16, 21-25, 20-25, Saturday night.

Kirby Burnham, Katey Thompson and Kelly Heenan were named to the all-tournament team. Burnham had 15 kills and six digs, Thompson had 14 kills and Heenan had 12 digs. Cinnamon Sary added 21 assists and eight digs and Mackenzi Campbell had 13 asssits and seven digs for Newport Harbor (11-3).

The Sailors also defeated Santa Margarita, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, and then scored wins over two teams from Kentucky to reach the title match. They beat Sacred Heart, 25-18, 25-22, and Assumption, 25-18, 17-25, 25-15.

Burnham had 32 kills in the three matches, while Maddie Brown compiled 22 kills. Heenan had 17 digs against Assumption.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

South Coast Tournament

NEWPORT BEACH — Corona del Mar High finished sixth after losing to Dos Pueblos, 13-5, Saturday at Newport Harbor.

Max Bergeson had two goals in the loss. He scored four goals in the Sea Kings’ 11-8 win against The Bishop’s in a fifth-place semifinal. Blake Terry had three goals and Chase Watson scored two. Goalie Bruce Bearer recorded 10 saves.

Memorial Tournament

ANAHEIM — Junior Charlie Umansky scored 13 goals combined in a pair of wins to lead Estancia High to the consolation championship Saturday.

He scored five goals in a 17-7 win against Loara, while Matt Thome, Brodie Henscheid and Roy Smith had three each. Connor Graham recorded 16 saves.

Umansky had eight goals in a 12-9 victory over Orange. Preston Schow added four goals and Graham had 12 saves for the Eagles (9-4).
