Blue Vikings get first victory
Jacob Favazza scored twice and Zachary Walker and Conner Docekal also found the end zone as the Huntington Beach Pop Warner Flag division Blue Vikings beat Garden Grove, 26-12, Saturday at Marina High.
Cole Frank and Kadin Semonza played well defensively for Huntington Beach (1-2). Dylan Docekal set the tone of the game on the first play with a 50-yard run down to the 2-yard line.
?Quarterback Shane Dzwilewski threw two 10-yard touchdown passes to receiver Joey Valenta as the Huntington Beach Pop Warner Flag division White Chargers topped the Tustin Cobras, 25-12, Saturday at Edison High.
Valenta also scored on a kickoff return, and Roger Zwicky got his first score of the season by running in the extra point. Dane Hart got his first carry of the season and gained some good yardage.
?In Mighty Mite action, the Huntington Beach Green Chargers stopped the Tri-Cites Ravens, 20-0, Saturday at Costa Mesa. Alex Rostamian and Tristan Friend helped lead a dominating offensive line while A.J. Gatto, quarterback Nicholas Upstill and Miles McCord led a balanced running attack and all scored touchdowns. Andre Birkner and Connor Sanford recovered fumbles for the defense.
?The Huntington Beach Junior Pee Wee Gold Chargers improved to 3-0 by knocking off the previously undefeated Santa Margarita Blue Mustangs, 8-0, Saturday at Santa Margarita.
The Chargers offensive line, led by centers Matt Martinez and Austin Irvin, took advantage of the defensive scheme and repeatedly opened holes against the Mustangs for big runs. Mike Saffel and Nick Warren continued to run and chip away at the Mustang defense until Kyle Drinnon broke the game open with a 40-yard reception to the 2-yard line. On fourth down, quarterback Chase Ault sprinted into the end zone as the Chargers took the lead.
On fourth down in the fourth quarter, Saffel, Zack Edsell, Caden Snyder and Chase Ault blocked a Santa Margarita punt and recorded a safety. The Chargers now face Saddleback Valley (also 3-0) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at El Toro High.
?The HB Pop Warner Pee Wee Green Chargers also won a defensive struggle against Santa Margarita, recording a 6-0 win Saturday. The only touchdown was by Sharky Reza on 21-yard run in the fourth quarter. Defensively, Miguel Morieta was active and led the team in tackles, while Joe Burris, Curren Lara, Kendrick Daily, Joseph Lily and Louis Bray helped out with solid line play on both sides of the ball.
