Police identify Costa Mesa man arrested in shooting

Costa Mesa police have identified a man arrested on suspicion of attempting to kill his wife earlier today as 75-year-old Kenneth Leake.
Police allege that Leake shot her in the head at their Eastside Costa Mesa home. They identified the victim as Doris Leake, 72.
Voter registration records list a Kenneth and Doris Leake as living in the 2000 block of Orange Avenue. The shooting occurred shortly after noon near the corner of Orange Avenue and Sierks Street.
The victim was alive and conscious when police arrived at the couple’s home afterward, police said. She was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
Costa Mesa police had received a call from a man who said he had shot his wife at their home. The man was in his yard, waving his hands in the air when police officers arrived on scene, the police department said.
Police shut down the intersection of Orange Avenue and Sierks Street after the shooting.
