CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings came up short in an exciting match between two of the top teams in CIF Southern Section Division I Wednesday.

With Campbell Hall leading, 9-8, in sets, and the game games tied at 65, the match was virtually decided on the final set: CdM’s Melissa Matsuoka vs. Sabrina Santamaria.

Santamaria won, 6-4. The CdM doubles team of Kelli Feeley and Azadeh Nazemi, as well as Kalika Slevcove and Katelyn Nguyen won two sets each.

The Sea Kings dropped to 1-1.

The top two doubles teams swept to help CdM open the season with a win Tuesday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jessica Beyer and Piper Bledsoe won, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0, while the No. 2 doubles team of Slevcove and freshman Alison Ishii also swept, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0.

CdM plays at Newport Harbor today.

Estancia 16, Bolsa Grande 2

COSTA MESA — Senior Kendra Fisher and junior Laurel Hinson both swept at love for the Eagles in their nonleague match Wednesday.

Senior Nicole Marlborough played with two different doubles partners and won with Christy Brown and Vanessa Corona.

Estancia (2-1) plays today at Westminster.

BOYS WATER POLO

CORONA DEL MAR — Michael Liao led the Sea Kings with three goals, three assists and three assists in CdM’s season opener Wednesday.

Balke Terry added two goals, while goalie Bruce Bearer had eight saves. Max Bergeson contributed two assists.

Newport Harbor 12,

Long Beach Wilson 6

NEWPORT BEACH — Blake Kelly and Jack Yeager scored four goals each to help the Sailors win their season opener Tuesday.

Dane Sequiera added four assists and Zach Lucas recorded three steals. Chris Whitelegge and Ikika Sarme had four and three saves, respectively.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

JSerra def. Sage Hill

NEWPORT COAST — Seniors Lindsey Kish and Maddie Gordon-Lavaee, as well as sophomore Natasha Sakraney had four kills each for the Lightning in the nonleague match Wednesday.

JSerra won, 25-20, 25-20, 25-14.

The Lightning play at Northwood Tuesday.

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Grace Kim shot a seven-over-par 42 for the Sea Kings in a nonleague match at Newport Beach County Club.

CdM’s Tess Crane and Amanda Johnson each shot 46 and Ashley Varner and Hyebin Hong finished at 47.
