UCI star honored

UC Irvine senior Irving Garcia has been named second-team preseason All-American by Soccer America.

Garcia recorded a point in each of UCI’s final seven games last season, helping the Anteaters claim their first Big West Conference regular-season and tournament titles, before making the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Garcia, a transfer from Yavapai Community College in Arizona, had seven goals and nine assists last season, helping UCI finish 15-2-6 and advance to the round of 16.
