OCC sailing center gets makeover
Orange Coast College has completed a $4.4-million project to make its sailing center wheelchair-accessible and earthquake-ready and to add a women’s locker room.
The building, which sits on West Coast Highway in Newport Beach, was built in the 1970s before the proliferation of accessibility requirements and before the school had a women’s crew team.
When it added a women’s team in 1993, the two teams shared a locker room.
Eleven new parking spots and a training room were also added along with the other upgrades.
The project’s funding came from Measure C, a bond issue approved by voters in 2002, and $600,000 in private donations.
