Man gets 31 years for fraudulent purchase

A Tustin resident was sentenced to 31 years and four months in state prison for using a stolen identity to buy a Huntington Beach home and other fraudulent schemes totaling $2.8 million, according to a news release from the Orange County district attorney.
Gene Anthony Franklin, 34, was charged with 46 felony counts in April for identity theft, false impersonation, failure to appear on a felony while on bail, attempted extortion by threat, dissuading a witness from prosecuting a crime and a long list of misdeeds, according to the release.
Franklin fraudulently purchased a $685,000 Huntington Beach house, attempted to purchase a $310,000 boat and secure a $240,000 loan under false identities, according to the release.
Franklin was found guilty in April.
