Police warn residents after rash of thefts

The Fountain Valley Police Department is warning residents to take care with personal items left in parked cars, following a rash of thefts.
Police advise residents to always lock their cars and roll up their windows completely when parking, and stick to well-lit areas.
Residents are advised against leaving their engine running while stepping away from the vehicle, even to drop off a rental film or to use an ATM machine.
Drivers should lock their valuables in their trunks, away from public view, police said.
Garage door openers should not be left in plain sight, and original ownership papers should not be left in the car.
The most commonly stolen items include briefcases, purses and backpacks; phones, MP3 players and computers; currency, jewelry and wallets.
