Conlogue a champ again

Courtney Conlogue, an incoming senior at Sage Hill School, won the Assn. of Surfing Professionals Grade-4 Supergirl Pro Junior event in Oceanside Sunday.
Conlogue recorded a 7.40 out of a possible 10 points during a single-wave score in the final, helping her edge out Malia Manuel of Hawaii, 12.90 to 12.40.
Conlogue won $5,000 for her efforts. The prize is the largest in the history of ASP North America.
Conlogue has been excelling. She won the women’s title at the International Surfing Assn. World Championship in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica this month and the women’s title at the U.S. Open of Surfing in July.

DAY 10TH IN THE WORLD
BERLIN — Sharon Day, a former Costa Mesa High standout, finished 10th with 6,126 points in the heptathlon at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany Sunday.
Jessica Ennis of Great Britain won the heptathlon with 6,731 points.
Day finished second in her heat in the 200 meters (2 minutes, 13.81 seconds).
Day finished 10th in the long jump at 5.69 meters.
She was second in her group in the javelin with a throw of 44.14 meters.
She was the top American in the heptathlon, as teammate Diana Pickler took 11th with 6,086 points.
Day will compete in the high jump today.

CDM’S BROWN WINS
Corona del Mar High incoming sophomore Parker Brown teamed with Kyle Baily to win the 16-and-under volleyball division at the USA Beach Jr. Tour Championships in Huntington Beach Sunday.
Brown, a call-up last year on varsity at CdM, went 6-0 with Baily during the one-day event. Brown is a setter and opposite for the Sea Kings.
