Lifeguards, alumni receive scholarships

Four lifeguards headed to college have been awarded scholarships by the Newport Beach Fire Department for their outstanding service.
James Jackson from Newport Harbor High School and Kathryn Bilder from Corona del Mar High School both received $1,000 scholarships at a Wednesday morning ceremony at lifeguard headquarters.
David Collier from Estancia High School and Eric Smith from Edison High School received $750 awards.
Eight lifeguards were recognized as lifeguards of the year for their respective classes.
Division I — Mark Milovic
Division II — Gregory Meyer
Division III — Timothy Rolfes
Division IV — Wynne “Chip” Going
Junior Lifeguard of the Year: Jenna Murphy
Rookie Junior Lifeguard Instructor of the Year: Matthew Meyer
Rookie Lifeguard of the Year: Matthew Lippi
Top Gun, or top finisher in the Basic Lifeguard Academy: Kristopher Craib
