I think the Surfer magazine editor has smoked too much seaweed or been hit in the head by a surfboard too many times. Leaving out Huntington Beach as one of the top surf beaches was like doing a survey of the best music venues in the U.S. and not including Carnegie Hall (“Why we didn’t make the surf list,” In the Pipeline, July 9). His answers to Chris Epting’s questions were really lame. Maybe the city should ban his magazine from sales in Huntington Beach.

Just read your article about cat adoptions in today’s paper (“Giving animals another chance,” City Lights, July 16). Major kudos to you for writing this!
We live in Huntington Beach and I visit both PetSmart and Petco for food and litter for our two cats. I’ve not only seen these precious Second Chance babies, but make a point to wheel my Sherpa-bound cats to visit (through the glass!) as a reward for getting their nails trimmed at the Huntington Beach PetSmart on Edinger.
It never fails that we attract more people over and we start talking about how great these potential adoptees are! (I also try to put in a few donation dollars into their small adoption bin.)
My point is to thank you for highlighting these cats. They will make their new “parents” very happy.
