Community & Clubs:
Costa Mesa resident and business leader Kim DeBroux was installed as president of the Rotary Club of Costa Mesa at the organization’s first meeting of the 2009-10 Rotary year.
As she took the helm as president, she gave a past presidents pin to Don Gregg. Susan James was installed as president-elect and club secretary, giving up her longtime role as treasurer to Jeff Koslin, certified public accountant. Serving with DeBroux is Dale Bixler, sergeant of arms; Don Gregg, community service director; Larry Thomas, foundation chairman; Joan Archibald as club service director; Bob Nanny, vocational service chairman; Alex Ureche, international service Chairman.
Club meetings during the summer have taken the California casual approach by meeting in homes of Rotary members, DeBroux said. The club meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays for fellowship, food, fund and service. To get the location of their next meeting, call DeBroux at (714) 914-1078.
Rotary Club of Costa Mesa is a co-sponsor with Newport Beach Sunrise for the first Newport Beach Lobster Fest 3 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Newport Dunes Resort.
According to the organizers, the Lobster Fest is a family-friendly event providing attendees a delicious dinner of freshly cooked Maine lobsters (flown in the night before) with top-grade tri-tips, delicious sides and beverages. Adults ticket prices start at $75.
For the children, there is a menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, sides and drinks cooked on the fabulous grill by local Newport Beach firefighters.
There will be loads of activities for the children, including a sandcastle-building contest and puppet show. Children’s tickets are $25.
Proceeds from the event will go in part to Marine families at Camp Pendleton and local Rotary club projects. For more information and to order tickets, go to www.lobsterfestatnewportbeach.com or call (949) 650-5504.
