West Coast University’s Orange County campus graduates achieve a 93.48% first-time pass rate on NCLEX exam

Costa Mesa-based West Coast University has announced that 43 out of the 46 students who graduated in April 2009 from its Orange County campus inaugural class passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), one of the components necessary to become a registered nurse in the United States.

“It is a remarkable achievement to have a 93.48% pass rate for this nationwide exam, which is necessary for one to become a licensed nurse in this country,” commented Wayne Fletcher, Senior Vice President of West Coast University. “I congratulate our graduates, as well as our faculty and staff for their commitment in preparing these students to succeed.”

NCLEX examinations are administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Inc. (NCSBN) on behalf of its member boards, which consist of the boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands.

To ensure public protection, each board of nursing requires a candidate for licensure to pass the appropriate NCLEX examination, NCLEX-RN for registered nurses and the NCLEX-PN for practical/vocational nurses. NCLEX examinations are designed to test the knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry-level.
