Kristin Korb Trio to play at Rose Garden
Laguna Beach Live! will feature the Kristin Korb Trio from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hotel Laguna’s outdoor Rose Garden as part of their Jazz Wednesday series.
Korb, an upright bass player and vocalist whose voice has been compared to jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald, will perform with keyboardist Lew Matthews and drummer Steve Barnes.
The Montana native moved to Southern California in the early ‘90s, where she quickly attained popularity among fellow jazz musicians, including Ray Brown, who brought her to the attention of Telarc Jazz. Soon after, she recorded her debut album, “Kristin Korb with the Ray Brown Trio.”
Recent performances include a presentation at the International Assn. of Jazz Educators Conference, a Japanese tour, the Brandon Jazz Festival in Canada and the Paradise Valley and West Coast Jazz Parties.
She has been featured at the International Society of Bassists Conference and has recently been appointed to their board of directors.

Quim Bove returns to Meyer Gallery
“Orbital Laps,” a mixed-media collection by international Catalan artist Quim Bove, will be on display beginning Saturday at Marion Meyer Contemporary Art Gallery, 354 N. Coast Hwy.
“The resin and oil paintings on wood demonstrate bold brush strokes, which create abstract and seemingly random orbits that serve has his musings on the cycle of time in human life and philosophic aspect of human nature,” Meyer said.
The exhibit follows three Bove solo exhibitions over the past five years titled “Transcendence,” “Energy” and “Microcosm.”
In addition, “Moderno,” an exhibit featuring Latin American artists Moran, Barraza and Cornejo, new to the gallery’s roster of international artists, will debut at the July 2 First Thursday’s Art Walk. Art designs for restroom doors
Artists who live, work or exhibit in Laguna Beach are invited to apply to create artwork to decorate the upper walls between the entry doors to the public restrooms on Forest Lane in downtown Laguna Beach.
The budget for the project will range from $8,000 to $10,000.
