Marina camp begins Monday

Marina High boys’ basketball coach Roger Holmes’ 16th annual youth basketball camp begins Monday, continuing through July 16 at Marina High.

The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays each week. For more information, e-mail [email protected].

Floetker named Golden West’s best

Ocean View High junior Holli Floetker has been named the Most Valuable Player of the Golden West League in softball.

Floetker led the Seahawks to their third straight league title, all with her on the mound. This season, she was 16-3 with a 0.46 earned-run average. Floetker had 176 strikeouts in 123 innings.

Other first-team all-league honorees for Ocean View included senior outfielder Brooke Hitchcock, sophomore catcher Sarah Craig and sophomore third baseman Vanessa Cardoza.

Junior shortstop Autumn Martinez and senior first baseman Brandice Cutspec earned second-team recognition. The team finished 23-6 after the top-seeded Seahawks were upset in a CIF Southern Section Division IV second-round game.

Sneed is Sunset Player of the Year

Edison High senior catcher Donald Sneed has been named the Sunset League Player of the Year in baseball.

Chargers senior Kurt Heyer was named Pitcher of the Year and Steve Lambright the Coach of the Year.

Sneed batted .344 with a team-high seven home runs and 21 RBIs for the Chargers, who won their second league title in three years and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division I title game.

Heyer went 11-3 with a 0.82 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 100 innings.

Other first-team honorees include Edison infielder Ryan Little and pitcher Henry Owens. Marina pitchers Paul Strong and Race Parmenter, outfielder Jason Aden and infielder Chad Lewis also earned first-team status.

Fountain Valley Cody Morad and Ryan Manzon, Marina’s Vinny Ponce, Robert Chavarria and Slater Davis and Edison’s Kyle Jones, Chris Czerniachowski and Eric Snyder all made the second team.

All-CIF selections were also released recently, and Heyer and Owens both made the first team for Division I. Strong was a second-team honoree.

H.B.’s Condron shares top honor

Huntington Beach High senior Charlie Condron shared Most Valuable Player honors in the Sea View League in boys’ volleyball.

Condron was a standout libero for the Oilers, who shared the league title with Foothill.

He was joined on the first team by Oilers senior Zach Kimber and junior Tyler Kulakowski.

Huntington senior Robert McKinley and junior Nick Seigle earned second-team honors.

Condron was also a third-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I selection, as was Edison’s Torey Darin.
