Local educator wins trip to study Japan’s culture

Huntington Beach High School’s assistant principal of guidance, Jason Ross, is one of 10 educators in the nation to be awarded a trip to travel and study in Japan this summer.

Ross will be flying to Japan on June 30 as part of the 2009 Keizai Koho Center Educator Fellowship, where he will visit various schools and companies to learn about the Japanese culture.

Keizai Koho Center is an independent, nonprofit organization affiliated with the Japanese business federation Nippon Keidanren.

While in Japan, the educators will go on sightseeing and informative excursions. They will visit a middle school and a high school, according to Ross, giving him the opportunity to compare Japanese education with Huntington Beach’s. He said he hopes to bring back some of the good aspects of their learning processes to share with the community.
