Killer Whales defeat Gators 749-452
On June 13th, in South Coast Swim Conference action, the Newport Hills Swim Team Killer Whales traveled to the Fountain Valley home pool of the Greenbrook Gators, and left with a 749-452 victory. The Killer Whales started the meet in dramatic fashion, swimming to blue ribbon finishes in the first eighteen events of the day---along the way, winning each of the Medley Relay races.
Throughout the day, Newport Hills was led by their Under 6 Boys, 7-8 Girls, 7-8 Boys and 11-12 Boys----all of which took first place honors in both the Medley and Freestyle Relays, as well as their individual Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke age events.
Five different Killer Whales swimmers were three-time winners in individual events---- Speedy Laster, in the Under 6 Boys, won the 25 yard Freestyle, the 25 yard Breaststroke and the 25 yard Backstroke, Jake Bays, in the 7-8 Boys, was first in the 25 yard Freestyle, the 25 yard Butterfly and the 50 yard Freestyle, Madeline Musselman, in the 9-10 Girls, took first place in the 50 yard Freestyle, the 25 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard Individual Medley, Henry Wilde, in the 9-10 Boys, won the 50 yard Freestyle, the 25 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard Individual Medley and Christian Garkani, in the 13-14 Boys, swam to first place wins in the 50 yard Freestyle, the 50 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard Individual Medley---setting a new Team Record of 58.81, breaking his own record which he had set on May 17th of this year.
Newport Hills also had seven two-time individual event swimmers----Chloe Harbilas (25 yard Freestyle and 25 yard Backstroke) and Sophie Wallace (25 yard Butterfly and 50 yard Freestyle) in the 7-8 Girls, Connor McManigal (25 yard Breaststroke and 25 yard Backstroke) in the 7-8 Boys, Lauren Openshaw (50 yard Breaststroke and 50 yard Backstroke) in the 9-10 Girls, Taylor Cortens (50 yard Freestyle and 50 yard Breaststroke) and Ryan Cargile (50 yard Backstroke and 100 yard Individual Medley) in the 11-12 Boys and Graham Wickens (50 yard Butterfly and 100 yard Individual Medley) in the 15-18 Boys.
Individual event winners for the Killer Whales included Codence Gronski (25 yard Freestyle) and Georgia Salvino (25 yard Breaststroke) in the Under 6 Girls, Tommy Bethel (25 yard Butterfly) in the Under 6 Boys, Anna Wilde (25 yard Breaststroke) in the 7-8 Girls, Morgan Cortens (50 yard Backstroke) in the 9-10 Boys, Briana Daboub (50 yard Backstroke---where she tied the 2002 Team Record of Katherine Kaczmarek) in the 11-12 Girls, Brett Greenlee (50 yard Butterfly) in the 11-12 Boys, Skylar Dapp (50 yard Breaststroke), Lauren Dean (50 yard Butterfly) and Chloe Dapp (50 yard Backstroke) in the 13-14 Girls, Hollace Barden (50 yard Freestyle), Alexandra Musselman (50 yard Breaststroke) and Katie Bethel (50 yard Backstroke) in the 15-18 Girls and Anthony Daboub (50 yard Freestyle) and Derek Salvino (50 yard Breaststroke) in the 15-18 Boys.
Greenbrook’s Makenna DuBois was a three-time winner (50 yard Freestyle, 50 yard Butterfly and 100 yard Individual Medley) in the 11-12 Girls and Taylor Johnson (13-14 Girls 50 yard Freestyle and 100 yard Individual Medley) and Katrina Curtiss (15-18 Girls 50 yard Butterfly and 100 yard Individual Medley) were both two-time winners. Individual winners for the Gators included Alyssa Hill (Under 6 Girls 25 yard Butterfly), Kate Edmonds (Under 6 Girls 25 yard Backstroke), Kyle Reilly (9-10 Boys 50 yard Breaststroke), Sarah Yao (11-12 Girls Breaststroke), Dana Fish (13-14 Girls Backstroke), Alex Kryger (13-14 Boys 50 yard Breaststroke), Tyler Bernardin (13-14 Boys Backstroke) and Tyler Kaneshiro (15-18 Boys 50 yard Backstroke).
The Killer Whales host the Green Valley Dolphins this upcoming Saturday, June 20th at 9 AM.
