Condron named to All-America team

Huntington Beach High senior Charlie Condron was named Tuesday to the 2008-09 American Volleyball Coaches Assn.’s High School Senior All-America Team for boys’ volleyball.

Condron, a libero who will continue playing next year at Cal State Northridge, was named to the second team.

Condron helped the Oilers to a share of the Sea View League championship.

Three from Edison earn first-team volleyball honors

Edison High senior outside hitter Dillon Auxier, junior opposite Torey Darin and sophomore libero Michael Brinkley have all been named first-team All-Sunset League for the recently completed boys’ volleyball season.

Joining the three Chargers on the first team are Fountain Valley senior opposite Dillon Emery and Marina senior middle blocker Jacob Tricario.

Coach Brian Boone’s Chargers finished second in league to Newport Harbor.

Making second-team all-league were Edison’s Jeff Newell and Nick Capriccio, as well as Marina’s Matt Evans and Scott Brake.

Newport Harbor senior outside J.B. Green and sophomore outside Cody Caldwell shared league MVP honors.

Ocean View nabs three first-team baseball selections

Ocean View High baseball senior utility player Andrew Bynum, junior third baseman Kevin Nance and sophomore pitcher Alfredo Sepulveda have all earned first-team All-Golden West League honors.

Making the second team were senior outfielders Kevin Mackey and Austin Miller, junior infielder Aaron Delgado and sophomore infielder Blake Walker.

The Seahawks finished second in league and were eliminated in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs by Downey, 3-1.

Bynum, a top pitcher for Ocean View, played in the Tuesday’s Orange County All-Star Baseball Game.

Sunset seniors to face Trinity League in baseball Saturday

The Sunset League’s top baseball seniors will compete against the Trinity League in the Ryan Lemmon Foundation Senior Showcase on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Windrow Park.

Players scheduled to compete include Kurt Heyer, Donald Sneed and Ryan Little of Edison, as well as Kevin Osaki, Ryan Manzon and Loren Robb of Fountain Valley.

Marina’s J.J. Baccari, Slater Davies, Jason Aden and Austin Hill are also on the roster.

Also, on Friday evening, Sea View League seniors Huntington Bach’s Beau Amaral, Mike Chairez, Barry Luke and Blake Cestr will battle the Pacific Coast League at 7:30 p.m.

There is a $5 admission charge, with a $7 dinner Friday and $7 lunch Saturday sponsored by Outback Steak House.

All proceeds benefit the Ryan Lemmon Foundation.

Ryan Lemmon graduated from Woodbridge High in June, 1993.

He died in a car accident following his first year of college at Pepperdine.
