The Harbor Mesa Lions rocked and roared at the annual District Convention in Ventura, according to Carol Van Holt. They were definitely “the” winning club, receiving many honors and awards. They achieved the honors of: Division B Club of the Year, Visitation Club of the Year and also the winning centerpiece contest. Members receiving honors were: President of the Year, Gina Stansbury, Region Secretary of the Year, Jennifer Kelder and Winning Bulletin Editor, Carol Van Holt.

Two members received prestigious awards. Past District Gov. Barbara Hayward was given the International Presidents Commendation, and Joan Parks was given the Multiple District 4 Excellence Award.

WINE TASTING FUNDRAISER FRIDAY

Tablas Creek, A Central Coast winery, is supporting The Newport Irvine Rotary Foundation by hosting an educational wine tasting 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at 1719 Westcliff Drive, Newport Beach, board member Guy Harden said. “Six Rhone varietals will be poured,” he said. BINGO FOR THE LIONS FUNDRAISER

The Costa Mesa Orange Coast Lions Breakfast Club held a spaghetti dinner and bingo night recently at the Costa Mesa Senior Center, according to President Judy Wines.

“We had about 250 in attendance who enjoyed our wonderful Chef Bob Walkers’ spaghetti,” Wines said.

The event was begun many years ago by the late Marvin Kravitz.

Donations were provided by Angels Baseball, Applebees, Avila’s, Big-5 Sporting Goods, California Pizza Kitchen, Coco’s, Connell Chevrolet, Corner Bakery, Dodgers Baseball, Hooters, In-N-Out Burger, Jacks Surfboards, Metro Car Wash, Mi Casa, Newport Rib, Omelet Parlor, Patrick’s Pub, Pick-up Stix, Plums Cafe, Souplantation, Stater Bros, Trader Joe’s, Wahoos, Golden Dragon and Z’Tejas.

The success of this fundraiser makes it possible to keep donating money and time to the Costa Mesa community, Wines said.
