Mariners Christian takes CALOC championship

Mariners Christian’s seventh-grade boys’ volleyball team beat Crystal Cathedral Academy to win the Christian Athletic League of Orange County (CALOC) Division II championship May 15.

“We jumped on them early and never really let them feel comfortable in the match,” Mariners Christian Coach Steve Deverian said. “Our bigs, including Matt Sherburne, Clay Carr, Brett Olsen, and Will Fortier, dominated the middle. Passing and court coverage by Daniel Munoz and Chase Jackson made everything work. The two best setters in the league, Matt Elmajian and Matthew Deverian, led the team to victory. This game capped off a perfect season.”
