DUI checkpoint is Tuesday in Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa police are scheduled to conduct a DUI checkpoint Tuesday from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The checkpoint, on eastbound Baker Street east of Bear Street, is meant to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving, police said.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving will be on hand with their car crash trailer, highlighting the potentially dangerous aftermath for someone who chooses to drink and drive. The checkpoint is the fifth in two months; Costa Mesa police conducted two checkpoints in both April and May. Police arrested four drivers on suspicion of being drunk during their May 22 checkpoint.
Police fund the checkpoints and the required extra manpower and overtime through a state grant from the Office of Traffic Safety.
