The following is from the Laguna Beach City Council meeting of May 19:

Animal Shelter Renovation 5-0
Staff proposed a two-phase renovation of the shelter, which was approved conceptually by the council.
WHAT IT MEANS
Staff will design the shelter as a project that can be bid, awarded and constructed in two phases and postpone expenditures on creek restoration at the site.

Solar tubes 5-0
The council approved a proposal to encourage the use of solar tubes as a source of natural light, thereby reducing energy consumption.
WHAT IT MEANS
Staff was directed to develop guidelines and language for specifications of solar tubes, such as size and baffling requirements, and bring them back to the council on the Consent Calendar. Solar tubes will be exempted from the definition of a skylight.

Appeal Denied 5-0
The council denied the appeal of a Design Review Board approval of a project at 20950 Laguna Canyon Road.
WHAT IT MEANS
The property owner will be allowed to build a new, 420-square-foot carport and convert the existing garage to a workshop/storage area.
